I Love Sharing Thanksgiving With My Son

0

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. People often question: “Even more than Christmas?” For me, it’s a no-brainer – ABSOLUTELY!

This was true for me even as a child and teenager. I am very grateful that I grew up with more than I ever needed, so Christmas had a limited appeal. Thanksgiving, on the other hand, really gave me something to look forward to: food, family, friends, great conversation and a sore belly from all the laughter. You can say that Thanksgiving was my first experience with the simple joys in life.

One of the first things I was excited about sharing with my son is my love of Thanksgiving. I envisioned it as a time where he could feel that magic I always feel on Thanksgiving, and a chance for him to spend time with extended family and friends. He would also get his first taste of the fabulous, butter-laden foods we enjoy on the holiday. Never mind that for his first Thanksgiving he was barely eating solid foods, and only picked at some mashed potatoes and turkey!

As we approach Thanksgiving this year, here are three things I look forward to doing with my toddler this year:

1. Get Him Involved with the Cooking

My toddler loves food and loves to help in the kitchen. I think he’ll have tons of fun mashing the potatoes, stirring the gravy or mixing sweet potato pie.

2. Have Him Participate in Saying What He’s Thankful For

Before eating, my family gathers in a circle and everyone says a couple things they are grateful for. I have no idea whether my toddler will understand what is going on, but I’m sure his attempt to participate will be cute!

3. Get Him Involved with Clean-Up

My toddler is at that age where clean-up is still a little fun. We’ll sing the tune, and he’ll at least be able to bring a couple plates to the sink.

Do you love Thanksgiving as much as me? Sound off in the comments!
